Guarantee #1 SEO Positions

I hear this all the time. My first response is, "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." But there is one exception. What exactly are they guaranteeing you the #1 position for?

I get these same emails and phone calls guaranteeing #1 positions on Google. I started asking a simple question: "What keyword or search term are you guaranteeing me the #1 position for?" Most of the time they avoid the question. In the few cases where I did get an answer, it was for my company name.

Think about that for a minute. If your website has little or no SEO, it should still come up first when someone searches for your company name. Anyone typing your company name already knows who you are. Ranking #1 for your own name doesn't help you attract new customers.

Good SEO attracts people who have never heard of your company. They are searching for the products or services you offer, not your business name. Those are the rankings that matter.

No one can honestly guarantee a #1 ranking for those searches. Google changes its algorithms constantly, and your competitors are always improving their own websites and marketing.

A good SEO company won't promise you the impossible. Instead, they should talk about improving your visibility, increasing qualified traffic, generating more leads, and growing your market share over time.

Be very cautious of companies that lead with guaranteed rankings. Before you sign anything, ask one simple question:

"What search terms are you guaranteeing?" The answer will usually tell you everything you need to know.
